SETUP GUIDE

Connect AI Box MCP to ChatGPT

2 min readUpdated Jul 1, 2026Works on ChatGPT Plus, Pro & Team

This guide walks you through adding AI Box as a connector inside ChatGPT. Once it's set up, ChatGPT can call any of your AI Boxes — image generators, video tools, audio workflows, anything you've built — directly from a conversation.

WHAT YOU NEED

  • A paid ChatGPT account (Plus, Pro, or Team — custom connectors aren't on the free plan)
  • An AI Box account , sign up free if you don't have one
  • About 60 seconds of free time
1STEP 1

Turn on developer mode

Open ChatGPT on the web, click your profile, then Settings. Go to Apps & Connectors, scroll to Advanced settings, and toggle on Developer mode. This is what unlocks custom MCP connectors — if you already see a Create button, you can skip this step.

Authorize the connection

ChatGPT bounces you to AI Box in a popup. Review the access it's requesting (the minimum: see your published Boxes and run them on your behalf) and click Allow. The popup closes and AI Box shows up in your connector list.

Use it in a chat

Start a new chat, click the + in the composer, and enable AI Box under your connectors. Then just ask — ChatGPT routes the request through MCP and streams the result back into the conversation.

TEST IT

Try one of these prompts

Paste any of these into ChatGPT and watch it call AI Box for you. Each uses a different kind of Box so you can see the breadth of what's possible.

IMAGE BOX

"Use AI Box to generate a hero image for a landing page about meal-prep software — bright, editorial, 16:9."

AUDIO BOX

"Use AI Box to turn this paragraph into a natural-sounding voiceover file I can use in a video."

WORKFLOW BOX

"Run the AI Box competitor research tool on the company I just described and give me the summary."

TROUBLESHOOTING

Stuck? Try these first.

I don't see Developer mode in Advanced settings+

Custom MCP connectors require a paid ChatGPT plan (Plus, Pro, or Team) and are managed from ChatGPT on the web — check chatgpt.com in a browser rather than the mobile app. On Team and Enterprise workspaces an admin may need to enable connectors for members first.

The Create button rejects my URL+

Double-check you pasted https://mcp.aibox.ai/mcp/ exactly, including the trailing slash, and that authentication is set to OAuth. The most common typo is dropping the trailing /.

ChatGPT never calls AI Box in my chat+

Connectors are per-conversation. Click the + in the message composer and make sure AI Box is toggled on for that chat, then ask again mentioning AI Box by name the first time.

My Boxes aren't showing up as tools+

Only Boxes you've published show up in MCP. Open the Box in AI Box, hit Publish, then disable and re-enable the AI Box connector in your chat to refresh the tool list.

Does this also work in Claude, Cursor, or other apps?+

Yes — the same MCP URL works in every MCP-compatible client. See our guides for Claude, Cursor, and Gemini, or the MCP overview for the full list of supported apps.
