SETUP GUIDE

Connect AI Box MCP to Gemini

2 min readUpdated Jul 9, 2026Works with Gemini Spark, web & mobile

This guide walks you through adding AI Box as a custom connected app inside Google Gemini. Once it's set up, Gemini can call any of your AI Boxes — image generators, video tools, audio workflows, anything you've built — directly from a conversation, on the web and in the mobile app.

WHAT YOU NEED

  • A personal Google Account with Gemini Spark access — at the time of writing, custom connected apps require a paid Google AI Ultra plan
  • An AI Box account , sign up free if you don't have one
  • About 60 seconds of free time
1STEP 1

Open Gemini's Connected apps

Go to gemini.google.com in a browser (custom apps can only be connected from the web app), click Settings & help at the bottom of the sidebar, then Connected apps. If you don't see it, look under Personal Intelligence first.

Authorize the connection

Gemini bounces you to AI Box in a popup. Review the access it's requesting (the minimum: see your published Boxes and run them on your behalf) and click Allow. The popup closes and AI Box shows up under your Connected apps.

Use it in a chat

Start a new Gemini chat and just ask — mention AI Box by name the first time. Gemini routes the request through MCP and streams the result back into the conversation. Once connected on the web, AI Box works in the Gemini mobile app too.

Try one of these prompts

Paste any of these into Gemini and watch it call AI Box for you. Each uses a different kind of Box so you can see the breadth of what's possible.

IMAGE BOX

"Use AI Box to generate a hero image for a landing page about meal-prep software — bright, editorial, 16:9."

AUDIO BOX

"Use AI Box to turn this paragraph into a natural-sounding voiceover file I can use in a video."

WORKFLOW BOX

"Run the AI Box competitor research tool on the company I just described and give me the summary."

TROUBLESHOOTING

Stuck? Try these first.

I don't see Connected apps in my settings+

Custom connected apps are part of Gemini Spark, which at the time of writing requires a Google AI Ultra plan on a personal Google Account (18+, US, English only). Check gemini.google.com in a browser — custom apps can only be connected from the web app — and if Connected apps isn't in Settings & help, look under Personal Intelligence first. Work and school accounts don't have it yet.

The Add a custom app flow rejects my URL+

Double-check you pasted https://mcp.aibox.ai/mcp/ exactly, including the trailing slash — the most common typo is dropping the trailing /. You can leave Advanced features alone: AI Box supports Dynamic Client Registration, so there are no credentials to enter.

Gemini never calls AI Box in my chat+

Make sure the Keep Activity setting is on — Gemini can't use connected apps while it's off. Then ask again mentioning AI Box by name the first time ('use AI Box to…'). Once Gemini has used a tool, it reaches for it on its own.

My Boxes aren't showing up as tools+

Only Boxes you've published show up in MCP. Open the Box in AI Box, hit Publish, then disconnect and reconnect the AI Box app under Connected apps to refresh the tool list.

Does this also work in Claude, ChatGPT, or other apps?+

Yes — the same MCP URL works in every MCP-compatible client. See our guides for Claude, ChatGPT, and Cursor, or the MCP overview for the full list of supported apps.
